Michael Ohlson - Drums
Michael started playing music when he was 10 years old playing the trumpet in the school band. Later, Michael decided that he really wanted to play the drums but at the time he switched to guitar instead because the community where he and his mother were living in at the time would not allow him to have a drum kit. When Michael was 12, his living situation had changed and happened to be living with his father across the street from vocalist Scott Davis' house. Michael and his father had gone over to Scott's house one day and the drum kit belonging to one of 12 Ton Sledge's previous drummers was there. Scott told Michael that he could mess around with it if he wanted to, so he went behind the kit and started to play. When Scott heard Michael on the kit and asked him how long he had been playing the drums, Michael said that it was his first time! Michael's father said "We are so getting you a drum set!" after hearing Scott and Michael's conversation. Approximately five years later, 12 Ton Sledge had a lineup change so Michael agreed to help fill in on the shows that were already booked at the time while the band searched for a new drummer. Michael impressed the band so much at practice that he was considered the top candidate as the new drummer for 12 Ton Sledge. After playing his first show with the band at Pinion Pines and impressing the crowd, the band decided to offer Michael the position and he accepted. Michael uses Yamaha Stage Custom drums, Zildjian cymbals (A Custom, Avedis, and K), Gilbraltar hardware, Tama Iron Cobra pedals, DW 9000 remote hi hat cable system, Evans tom heads, Remo Emperor X snare drum heads, Aquarian bass drum heads, and Pro-Mark 747B Super Rock drumsticks.
